A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
The email indicates that the personal Microsoft account is over the free 5 GB Microsoft storage quota by 2.07 GB. Because the storage has been exceeded and the account has likely not been actively managed, the OneDrive cloud storage is frozen now and is scheduled to be deleted on or after 2/7/2026 unless storage is reduced or more storage is purchased.
To keep the files and unfreeze the account:
- Reduce storage usage or buy more storage
- Sign in to Manage your OneDrive storage to see what is taking up space and what plans are available.
- Delete files and photos that are no longer needed, including items in the OneDrive Recycle Bin, until the total usage is below the quota.
- Alternatively, purchase additional storage or a Microsoft 365 subscription that increases the storage quota. If already a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium subscriber, additional file storage can be added on top of the included 1 TB.
- Changes can take up to 2 hours to apply. If the account is still frozen after 4 hours, contact support.
- Understand what counts toward Microsoft storage
- The Microsoft storage quota includes:
- OneDrive files and photos (including camera roll and synced files)
- Items in the OneDrive Recycle Bin
- Outlook.com attachments and inline images
- Microsoft Teams message attachments and recordings
- Loop meeting notes and Designer project images
- The Microsoft storage quota includes:
- Consequences of doing nothing
- While over quota and frozen:
- New files cannot be uploaded, edited, or synced to OneDrive; existing files become read-only.
- Email cannot be sent or received in Outlook.com, even if the email storage itself is not exceeded.
- Microsoft Teams messages with attachments cannot be sent or received.
- After 6 months of remaining over quota, OneDrive and all files in it may be deleted and will not be recoverable.
- While over quota and frozen:
- If the message seems to be for a different account
- It may be associated with another personal Microsoft account (for example, one created via Samsung Gallery or another service). Sign in with other possible account credentials to check and unfreeze that account.
- If the sign-in details are forgotten, use the account recovery process to retrieve the username or reset the password.
- Speaking with a human agent
- For direct help from a support agent (chat or other channels), use the official Microsoft Support entry points such as Contact Microsoft Support or Outlook.com/OneDrive help panes, then choose the options that lead to Chat with a support agent in your web browser or similar. These paths allow discussion of the specific account and storage situation with a human.
