Issue with msn/outlook

I have always used my msn.com email on some accounts. But recently my accounts have been disabled because msn.com is also outlook.com. If I sign in to these accounts using my msn email, I get locked out because my email is wrong. I have contacted the IT department on one of the accounts they tell me my email was changed to outlook. They don't know how change it back to msn.

Hi April Breyman,

Your IT team is partly right: @msn.com and @outlook.com can be aliases on the same Microsoft account, but they are not automatically interchangeable on every third-party site. Those sites store one exact login ID, so if they changed it to @outlook.com, using @msn.com can fail.

Fix:

  1. Sign in to Microsoft account and verify aliases at account.microsoft.com > Your info > Manage how you sign in.
  2. Keep both aliases (if available) and set the one you want as primary.
  3. For each external account, ask support to set your login/username back to the exact @msn.com address (or use the @outlook.com one consistently if they cannot).

If they say they “can’t change it,” ask for an identity/login table update by an admin, because this is an app-side username mapping issue, not an Outlook mailbox issue.

Regards,
