How to restore my emails to my Microsoft account

I ran out of storage in my basic 365 account and Microsoft emptied my account....all my emails, sent mail, drafts, updates, etc. After I signed up for renewal of my basic 365 and agreed to pay $9.99/month for new storage, I called support to restore my account the way it was when I ran out of storage. My account was restored but the folders were empty. How do i restore all of my saved emails in Primary, Sent, Drafts, Promotions, Updates, etc.?

Deleted mail in Microsoft 365 Basic or Outlook.com can only be restored if it is still available in the service’s recovery paths. Once Microsoft has permanently removed data because an account exceeded storage and remained over quota, those emails cannot be recovered.

For this scenario, only the following options are available:

    1. Check the Deleted Items and Junk Email folders
      • In Outlook (web or app), open the Deleted Items folder and look for the missing messages.
      • Also check Junk Email.
      • If items are present, move them back to Inbox, Sent Items, or any custom folder using Move or drag-and-drop.
      • In new Outlook, select the items, then on the Home tab choose Move and select the target folder, or right‑click and choose Restore.
    2. Check if Outlook was auto‑emptying Deleted Items
      • If Outlook on the web was configured to empty Deleted Items on sign‑out, anything older than the retention window may already be permanently removed.
      • To stop future auto‑deletion: go to SettingsMessage handling and under When signing out, clear Empty my deleted items folder.
    3. Verify whether any local backups exist
      • If mail was ever exported or backed up (for example, via another client or service), restore from that backup. The provided context only includes a backup/restore path for MSN Explorer, not Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 Basic mailboxes.

If the mailbox was over quota and Microsoft already purged the data as part of storage enforcement, and the messages are no longer in Deleted Items, Junk Email, or any recoverable-items mechanism exposed in the UI, there is no supported way in the provided documentation to restore those emails.

For any further account or subscription issues (such as confirming what happened to the data and storage timing), use the Microsoft account and billing support options referenced below.
