I'm trying to change my password. I'm login on my computer on my microsoft account but don't remeber the password and the verification method with the scanner doesn't work. What can I do to get back my password ?

Because the password is not remembered and the current verification method (scanner / authenticator) does not work, the password cannot be “seen” again, but it can be reset while still signed in or via the web.

Use these steps depending on how sign-in is done on the PC:

    1. If signed in to Windows with a Microsoft account password or PIN
      1. Open Settings on the Windows device.
      2. Go to Accounts > Sign-in options (or use this shortcut: Sign-in options).
      3. Under Password, select Change.
      4. When asked for the current password, select Forgot my current password.
      5. Follow the prompts to verify the account (using any available email, phone, or other method that still works) and create a new password.
    2. If not signed in or Settings cannot be used
      1. From any browser, go to the Microsoft account password reset page: Reset password.
      2. Enter the Microsoft account email/username and select Next.
      3. Choose a verification option that is still accessible (email, SMS, etc.).
      4. Enter the verification code, then set a new password.
    3. If verification methods (security info) are not accessible
      1. Start sign-in to the Microsoft account.
      2. At the Verify your identity prompt, select I don't have any of these if shown.
      3. Follow the instructions to replace security info. After replacing all security info, there is a 30‑day wait before full sign-in is allowed.
      4. If none of the verification options work and the password is unknown, use the Microsoft account recovery form as described in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form and submit a recovery request.

Once a new password is set, the authenticator / scanner method can be updated or reconfigured under the account’s Advanced security options.
