Good evening,

I have been trying to log in to my Microsoft account associated with my gmail. It is how I log in to my Lenovo (my business computer). I have been trying to reset my password since Monday with no luck at all and it may cause me to have to replace a $1700 computer and permanent loss of documents. I also know I may have locked my account out. Please help me!

Follow these steps to regain access to the Microsoft account and Lenovo device:

    1. Use the Sign-in Helper
      • Go to the Sign-in Helper tool: Sign-in Helper.
      • Enter the Gmail address used as the Microsoft account.
      • The tool will detect common sign-in problems and provide specific guidance or recovery options for that account.
    2. Reset the password online
      • From the Sign-in Helper or directly from the Microsoft account sign-in page, choose Forgot password.
      • Complete the verification steps using any available method (email, SMS, or other security info).
      • If verification codes are not arriving or are blocked, avoid repeated requests, as excessive attempts can cause temporary blocks.
    3. If verification codes are not received or the account is blocked
      • There may be a temporary block due to unusual activity or too many verification attempts. In this case:
        • Wait at least 24 hours without making repeated attempts.
        • Try again from a different network (for example, switch from office Wi‑Fi to home Wi‑Fi or mobile data).
        • Try a different browser or use InPrivate/Incognito mode.
      • If still unable to receive codes or complete verification, use the account recovery form referenced by the Sign-in Helper.
    4. If the account is locked due to suspicious activity
      • When signing in, if there is no Next option and a message indicates the account is locked, follow the aka.ms/ link shown in the message.
      • Submit the account reinstatement form with as much accurate information as possible.
      • After submission, wait for the Microsoft Online Safety support agent to contact by email; do not submit multiple forms, as that can slow the response.
    5. If this is a work or school (business) account
      • If the Lenovo is joined to a work or school tenant (for example, a company or organization account), contact the organization’s IT admin or help desk.
      • They can assist with password reset or clearing multifactor authentication settings, especially if Microsoft Authenticator or SMS verification is failing.

These steps focus on recovering the Microsoft account first; once the account password is reset and sign-in works in a browser, use the same updated password on the Lenovo device to avoid losing access to documents stored under that profile.
