Wrong name displayed for my own email address in Outlook for Mac autofill

Due to inner procedure I have to resend mails to myself. Few days ago my name and surname automatically changed to someone's name and surname.

When I type my own email address in the "To" field in Outlook for Mac, the autocomplete suggests my correct email address but shows a wrong name belonging to someone else.

What I have already tried:

  • Removed the entry from autocomplete cache by clicking the × button — but after retyping the address, the wrong name reappears
  • Changing my own contact card in Outlook - it doesn't allow me to save changes

Environment:

  • Outlook for Mac (Microsoft 365)
  • macOS
  • business account

Question: Where does Outlook for Mac store the display name linked to an email address in autocomplete, and how can I permanently fix the wrong name showing for my own address?

Hello @Makhat KENESBAYEV

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators like me are not Microsoft support engineers, and we do not have backend access or the ability to directly intervene in Microsoft services. We can only provide technical guidance and best-practice recommendations based on similar reported issues.

I’d like to clarify a few points to better understand your scenario.

First, within your Outlook profile, are you only using a single business account, or do you have multiple accounts configured? Also, is your account connected via Exchange Online, or are you using another protocol such as IMAP/POP? When you mentioned “I have to resend mails to myself”, I understand that you are sending from your account (for example: ******@tenant1.com) to the same account, is that correct?

Have you tried removing and re-adding the account in Outlook, or using a different account to send an email to your address, to check whether the wrong display name still appears? Additionally, if your profile contains only this one account, does the issue still persist when sending emails? It would also be helpful if you could test the same behavior in Outlook on the web (OWA), when typing your email address there, does the autocomplete suggestion still show the incorrect name?

Could you also check with your internal IT/admin team to confirm whether your display name has been changed or updated recently?

Regarding your previous steps, could you please provide more details:

  • For “Changing my own contact card in Outlook”, what exact steps did you follow? For example, did you add your own email as a contact in your address book and then try to modify the name there?
  • For “Removed the entry from autocomplete cache by clicking the × button”, could you walk me through the exact steps you took?

About your question: “Where does Outlook for Mac store the display name linked to an email address in autocomplete”, based on my testing, this information may be coming from the Global Address List (server-side). In simple terms, even if you remove or modify it locally, when you type the email address, Outlook can still retrieve and display the name from the server, which is why the suggestion does not change.

Finally, could you share the exact version of Outlook for Mac (Microsoft 365) and your macOS version?

Please understand that the initial reply may not always immediately resolve the issue. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Looking forward to your reply.

You Account level Suggested People/Autocomplete might be the source of your problem. You can Export the contents of you Account level Suggested People (using Outlook Web) and see if it has the incorrect entry.

See the Answer by "Hornblower409 May 1 2026" How to convert your Autocomplete List to Contacts and erase the List in: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5871874/manually-removing-an-email-address-from-the-sugges?orderby=newest&page=1#answers

If the incorrect name is from your Account level Suggested People you probably will have to clear the whole list. I know the "X" to remove a single entry has been removed from all the other Outlook clients (Outlook Web, both Outlooks for Windows), and I can only assume it has been disabled in Outlook for Mac.
