I have an Android S21 phone and I also have Microsoft Outlook (desktop).

If I create an event on the phone it goes properly to Outlook website and desktop (Win 11). If I create the event on the phone (using Android calendar app the event does not get to Outlook. I have deleted the account on the phone twice and recreated it each time but still same problem. I have checked and the calendar events are set to sync and have even done a manual sync but again no help.

I have had the problem only the last week or so, prior it all worked fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Neil Go

I understand you are having a problem with Android Calendar events not syncing into your Outlook calendar, even though events created inside the Outlook app sync correctly. I am happy to help.

Android’s built-in Calendar app will only write back to Outlook if Outlook for Android is exporting your Outlook calendar to the device calendar using Sync calendars. Without this, events created in the Android Calendar app won’t be written back to Outlook.

Could you confirm:

  • In Outlook for Android, is Settings > Calendar > Sync calendars available and turned on?
  • What is the mailbox type: Outlook.com/Microsoft 365, or another provider?

Please follow these steps:

1) Turn on Outlook’s two-way calendar export to Android Calendar

  • In Outlook for Android: Settings > Calendar > turn on Sync calendars.
  • If it’s already on, try resetting the link:
    • Turn Sync calendars off
    • Close Outlook completely
    • Reopen Outlook
    • Turn Sync calendars on again

2) Ensure Outlook has the correct Android permissions (Calendar access)

Verify the app has the correct permissions to access calendar and contacts, otherwise sync features won’t work as expected.

3) Confirm the mailbox type is supported for two-way export

Two-way calendar export is supported for:

  • Microsoft 365
  • Outlook.com
  • On-premises mailboxes using hybrid modern authentication

If the account is outside those supported types, Android Calendar may not be able to push events back into Outlook using this feature.

4) Reset the Outlook mobile sync relationship

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!

The Android calendar app and the Outlook calendar only sync if the events are created on an account that is actually connected to Outlook via Exchange ActiveSync (or as an Outlook/Microsoft 365 account). Events created only in the device’s local calendar or on an account set up as IMAP/POP will not appear in Outlook.

To restore the behavior so that events created on the phone appear in Outlook:

    1. Verify which calendar the Android app is using when creating events
      • In the Android calendar app, open one of the events that does not appear in Outlook.
      • Check the “Calendar” field for that event.
      • If it shows a local device calendar (for example, “My phone” or similar) or an account that is not the Outlook/Microsoft 365 account, that event will not sync to Outlook.
      • Change the default calendar in the Android calendar app to the Outlook/Microsoft 365 calendar so new events are created on the same account that Outlook uses.
    2. Make sure the Outlook account is set up with calendar sync
      • On the phone, open Settings > Accounts (or similar) and open the Outlook/Microsoft 365 account.
      • Ensure that Calendar sync is turned on for that account.
      • If the account is configured as IMAP or POP, remove it and re-add it as an Exchange/Outlook/Microsoft 365 account so that calendar and contacts can sync.
    3. If using the Outlook mobile app, confirm calendar is enabled
      • In the Outlook app, go to Calendar and tap the three lines in the upper left.
      • Under the email accounts, ensure the Outlook account’s Calendar is checked.
      • If the email address is missing or only added as IMAP, remove and re-add the account, making sure to choose the Outlook/Microsoft 365 option (not IMAP).
    4. Recreate the sync relationship if needed
      • In the Outlook app, go to Settings > tap the account > Reset Account and test again.
      • If still failing, delete the account from the Outlook app and add it back using the Outlook/Microsoft 365/Exchange option so that calendar sync is fully re-established.

Once events are created on the Outlook/Microsoft 365 calendar on the phone (not on a local or non‑syncing calendar), they will sync to Outlook on the web and Outlook desktop again.
