Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To cancel the unwanted Microsoft 365 subscription and request a refund, follow these steps using the account that was charged (the Google-based Microsoft account used during the Windows update):
- Go to the Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that corresponds to the charged Gmail address (the one used when the subscription was accidentally purchased).
- Under Services & subscriptions, locate the Microsoft 365 subscription that matches the charge and order ID.
- Select Manage next to that subscription.
- If Turn on recurring billing is shown instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not renew; no further action is needed for cancellation.
- Select Cancel subscription (or Upgrade or Cancel, then choose the cancel option) and follow the prompts to complete cancellation.
To check refund eligibility and request a refund:
- After cancellation, use the refund flow for Microsoft subscriptions described in the refund article: start from the Microsoft 365 section in How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription and use the self-help tool (the Start link) to be guided through refund options for the canceled Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Not all cancellations result in a refund; eligibility depends on factors such as region, timing, and subscription type. Some countries support prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions. Details are in Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions linked from the refund and cancellation articles.
- If additional help is needed (for example, if the subscription does not appear as expected or the self-help tool cannot complete the request), contact Microsoft Support via Contact Microsoft Support from the refund article and provide the order ID and transaction date so support can review the charge.
If the subscription was purchased through a third-party store (such as Google Play or Apple App Store) instead of directly from Microsoft, cancellation and refund must be requested through that store’s support, as described in the Other section of the refund article.
Note that canceling a Microsoft 365 subscription may reduce cloud storage and affect access to OneDrive and Outlook.com data associated with that account, so important files and emails should be backed up before cancellation if needed.
