Follow these steps on the Windows 11 laptop to troubleshoot the Xbox wireless adapter:
- Update the driver via Device Manager
- Select Start, type Device Manager, and open it.
- Expand Bluetooth or Network adapters (the adapter may appear under either, or under Other devices if the driver is missing).
- Right-click the entry that corresponds to the Xbox wireless adapter and select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers and complete the wizard.
- Restart the PC.
- Check for driver updates via Windows Update
- Select Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install all available updates.
- If available, also go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates and install any driver updates listed.
- Restart the PC.
- Reinstall the adapter driver
- In Device Manager, locate the Xbox wireless adapter (under Bluetooth, Network adapters, or Other devices).
- Right-click it and select Uninstall device.
- Shut down the PC completely (do not just restart).
- Disconnect the adapter, wait a few seconds, then reconnect it and power on the PC.
- If Windows does not reinstall the driver automatically, in Device Manager select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
- If the adapter still does not work
- Verify that the latest driver for the adapter and for the laptop’s chipset/USB controllers is installed from the laptop manufacturer’s support site.
- If the device appears with a warning icon or as an unknown device, manually install the downloaded driver using Device Manager → Update driver → Browse my computer for drivers and point to the folder containing the driver files.
If, after these steps, the adapter continues to work on Windows 10 but not on the Windows 11 laptop, this typically indicates a driver or hardware compatibility issue specific to that laptop. In that case, contact the laptop manufacturer to confirm Windows 11 driver support for USB and wireless devices, or consider using a different adapter that has confirmed Windows 11 support.
