I setup my Microsoft 365 Office account a few years ago utilizing my workplace discount. I was billed this year and I am no longer receiving the discount even though I still work at my same employer, how can I get a refund of the difference and have the discount reapplied to my account?

To restore the workplace discount and request a refund for the overcharge, take these steps:

    1. Confirm how the subscription was purchased
      • If the Microsoft 365 subscription was originally bought through the Microsoft Workplace Discount Program (formerly Home Use Program) but has since renewed at full price, the current billing may now be a standard consumer subscription.
      • If the subscription was purchased through a third-party retailer (Amazon, Apple, Google Play, etc.), all billing and refund actions must go through that retailer, not Microsoft.
    2. Check the subscription and charges in the Microsoft account
      • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account used for the subscription.
      • Verify which Microsoft 365 product is active (for home subscriptions such as Microsoft 365 Family or Personal, or Office one-time purchases) and confirm the current price and renewal details.
    3. Request a refund for the overcharge
      • Use the official refund flow for Microsoft subscriptions: follow the steps in How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription to cancel or adjust the subscription and check refund eligibility.
      • Not all cancellations result in a refund, and eligibility depends on timing and local policy. For some countries, prorated refunds may be available for certain subscription lengths.
      • If the subscription was purchased from Google Play or the Apple App Store, request the refund directly from those stores using their refund processes.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support for billing review
      • If the self-service refund flow does not cover the difference between the workplace discount price and the full price, contact Microsoft Support so an agent can review the billing history and determine whether any refund or credit can be applied.
      • Use the support paths described in the Q&A references (Contact Microsoft Support → Microsoft 365 & Office → Manage my subscription → Chat with a support agent).
    5. Re-establish the Workplace Discount Program benefit
      • Confirm that the employer still participates in the Microsoft Workplace Discount Program and that eligibility is current.
      • From the Workplace Discount Program site, re-verify the work email and follow the instructions there to purchase or renew Microsoft 365 at the discounted price.
      • If the current full-price subscription is active, it may be necessary to cancel/let it expire and then purchase a new discounted subscription through the Workplace Discount Program, using the same or a different Microsoft account as instructed on that site.

For any refund of the difference and for reapplying the discount to the existing subscription, final decisions and actions must be handled directly by Microsoft Support or, if applicable, the third-party retailer.
