HI,

When trying to apply for an identity validation in artifact signing, I get the following error: "This subscription cannot be used for organization identity validation as the billing account type associated with it does not indicate ownership by an organization." I think I need to have a Microsoft Customer Agreement. However, no matter where I try I cannot seem to get in touch with support to get this done.

I am completely stuck I tried two account creations using, company details and card but both ended in the same error.

The error occurs because the subscription’s billing account is of type Individual, but Artifact Signing organization identity validation requires a billing account whose type indicates Enterprise/Organization.

    For Artifact Signing:

    • A billing account with Account Type “Individual” (Microsoft Customer Agreement – Individual) can only be used for Individual identity validation.
    • A billing account with Account Type “Enterprise/Organization” (Microsoft Customer Agreement – Enterprise, or Enterprise Agreement) can only be used for Organization identity validation.
    • An individual billing account cannot be used to validate an organization identity, and an organization billing account cannot be used to validate an individual identity.

    To move forward:

    1. Verify the billing account type on the subscription used for Artifact Signing, as described in the prerequisites.
    2. If the billing account is Individual, either:
      • Use Individual Developer identity validation instead of Organization, or
      • Work with the appropriate Microsoft billing channel to obtain a subscription under a Microsoft Customer Agreement – Enterprise/Organization or an Enterprise Agreement and then use that subscription for Artifact Signing.
    3. Ensure that the billing account information (legal name, billing address, organization details) exactly matches what should appear on the Artifact Signing Public Trust certificate profile before starting identity validation.
    4. If there are still issues with the billing account or subscription setup, open a support request from the Azure portal under Help + support (requires a support plan) or use the support options listed in the Artifact Signing FAQ (Azure Support, Microsoft Q&A with the artifact-signing tag, or Stack Overflow with the trusted-signing tag).
