Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
The subscription-expired or account-notice message usually means Microsoft 365 cannot confirm an active, paid subscription for the account signed into Outlook/Office, or there is a payment/renewal issue on the backend.
Follow these steps in order:
- Confirm the subscription is actually active
- Close Outlook and all Office apps.
- Go to the Microsoft account Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account used in Outlook.
- Under the Microsoft 365 heading, check the status:
- If it shows Expired or Canceled, renew it using the steps in Renew Microsoft 365 Family linked from the page.
- If it shows Past due, pay the overdue amount (see next step).
- Pay any past-due balance
- On the same Services & subscriptions page, look for any subscription marked Past due.
- Select Pay now.
- Update or change the payment method if the card is expired or invalid.
- Complete the payment.
- After payment succeeds, wait a few minutes, then restart Outlook and check again.
- Make sure payment information is valid
- Go to the Payment options page: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
- If the payment method shows an error (expired or declined), update it or add a new payment method.
- Restart Outlook and check whether the subscription warning disappears.
- If Outlook still shows subscription expired after renewal/paying
- Confirm online that the subscription shows as Active and the expiration date is in the future on the Services & subscriptions page.
- If you recently renewed using a product key (card/box from a store), make sure the key was actually redeemed; the subscription does not start until the key is entered.
- If the subscription is active but Outlook still shows expired, contact Microsoft Support from the subscription/billing pages so they can check the account status.
While the issue is being resolved, email can still be accessed using Outlook on the web via https://www.office.com if the account is active.
