A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Teams and work email on the phone are repeatedly asking for authentication because access is being challenged and the apps need a fresh sign-in to restore access.
Use these steps on the phone:
- When the banner or prompt appears in Teams or Outlook, tap Sign in and complete the sign-in, including any multi-factor authentication (MFA) such as Microsoft Authenticator, SMS, or phone call.
- If no sign-in button appears, fully close the app and reopen it:
- Force-quit Teams and Outlook.
- Open them again and follow the sign-in prompts.
- Make sure the phone is on the network required by the organization:
- If a VPN is required, connect to it before opening Teams or email.
- Avoid switching between mobile data and Wi‑Fi or between different Wi‑Fi networks while using Teams and email.
- Keep the apps updated:
- Update Microsoft Teams and Outlook to the latest version from the app store.
- If MFA codes are not being received (SMS or email):
- Avoid repeatedly requesting codes, as excessive requests can cause temporary blocking.
- Check if SMS from unknown numbers are blocked on the phone and adjust settings.
- Check junk/spam folder for verification emails from
@accountprotection.microsoft.com. - Verify that the phone number and email used for verification are correct by signing in to the Security info page and selecting Update info if possible.
- If sign-in prompts keep returning even after successful sign-in, or if the device is reported as out of compliance or blocked, contact the organization’s IT admin so they can:
- Check conditional access policies (VPN, device compliance, sign-in risk).
- Reset MFA or require re-registration of authentication methods if needed.
If the account is a Teams Free (personal) account, the same app steps apply: sign in again from the banner, ensure stable network, avoid network switching, and keep the app updated.
