OneNote cannot share a page via e-mail

With microsoft® onenote® for microsoft 365 mso (version 2603 build 16.0.19822.20086) 64-bit when I want to use the feature "share e-mail copy of page" the following error message appears: "Microsoft Outlook is not properly installed or has not been started for the first time. you can install or repair outlook, or set a different default e-mail program and then try again".

I have the Office 365 suite installed by my company IT department, I already checked that the Windows 11 settings for the default e-mail program are set to Outlook Version: 1.2026.428.200

What else may I try to let OneNote and outlook work together?

This does not work in classic outlook anymore. Used to be that the "Send Page" button in OneNote would create the email and also add the recipients from the invitation in the mtg notes to the "to" bar. Also it would also add the subject from the title of the mtg. All of this based on the OneNote page having "Meeting Details". None of this is working in classic or new outlook anymore. (Windows 11)

The error occurs because the “New Outlook” app is set as the default mail client, and New Outlook is not MAPI‑compliant. OneNote’s “Share e‑mail copy of page” feature requires a MAPI‑compliant Outlook (Classic Outlook for Windows).

To get OneNote and Outlook working together for this feature, use Classic Outlook as the default mail client instead of New Outlook:

Switch from New Outlook to Classic Outlook
- Open the New Outlook app.
- Use the toggle at the top right (often labeled “Try the new Outlook” / “New Outlook”) to turn New Outlook off.
- This will start Classic Outlook for Windows.
Make sure Classic Outlook is the default mail client
- In Windows 11, go to Settings > Apps > Default apps.
- Find Outlook (desktop) / Classic Outlook and set it as the default for MAILTO and for Email.
Restart OneNote and test again
- Close OneNote completely.
- Reopen OneNote and try Share > E‑mail copy of page again. It should now call Classic Outlook and send the page.

If Classic Outlook is not installed in the environment, the IT department must install it; otherwise, OneNote’s email‑sharing feature cannot work because New Outlook does not support the required MAPI integration.
