I set up office under the wrong account. How do I change it?

I purchased MS office Home with a new computer I will be using for work. I thought the individual programs would just load to the new computer and my new work email would take over from there. While installing I logged into an existing Microsoft account that I had and used an incorrect email for my new company. I want to change everything over to a corrected company email.

The Office Home license is permanently tied to the Microsoft account that was used when it was first redeemed. It cannot be moved from that account to a different Microsoft account or work email.

To keep using Office on the new computer for work while separating personal and work use, follow this approach:

Keep the existing Microsoft account as the license owner
The account already used during setup is now the one that:
- Installs and activates Office on devices.
- Manages the one-time purchase under the Services & subscriptions page.
Sign in to Office apps with the licensed account
- Open Word or another Office app.
- Go to File > Account and ensure the account shown under “Product Information” is the Microsoft account that owns the Office Home license.
- If a different account is shown, sign out there and sign back in with the licensed Microsoft account so Office stays activated.
Use the work account only for work services (email, OneDrive, etc.)
- In the Office apps, keep the licensed Microsoft account under Account for activation.
- Add the work or school account only under Connected services (for OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, etc.) so work files and email stay under the work identity.
If the wrong account is just an email typo
If the “incorrect email” is simply a wrong alias on the same Microsoft account, the primary sign-in email for that account can be changed by managing aliases (for example, adding a new alias and making it primary). This changes how the account is labeled but does not move the license to a different account.

If the goal is to have the license owned by the company rather than a personal account, a separate business subscription (Microsoft 365 Business) under the organization’s tenant is required; the existing Home license cannot be converted into or transferred to a work account.
