Microsoft support cannot restore lost Microsoft Authenticator codes or account credentials if there is no backup available.

If the Authenticator app and backup codes were lost and there is no cloud backup configured, the only option is to re-add each account to Authenticator manually using that account’s own recovery or security process.

For the Microsoft account used with Authenticator:

    1. If unable to restore Authenticator because the backup account (Microsoft account or iCloud account) cannot be accessed, support agents cannot restore those credentials.
    2. Use the Microsoft account sign-in and recovery tools to regain access to the Microsoft account itself, then set up Authenticator again:
      • If access to some security info is still available (phone/email), sign in to the Advanced security options page and add a new way to sign in or verify, then remove outdated methods.
      • If all security info is lost but the password is known, begin sign-in, choose I don't have any of these, and follow the steps to replace security info. After replacement, there is a 30‑day wait before full sign-in.
      • If the password is not known and no security info is available, use the Microsoft account recovery form to try to regain access.

Once the Microsoft account is recovered and working again, Authenticator can be set up from scratch and accounts (including third‑party ones like Roblox) must be re-added using each service’s own recovery options. For Roblox or any non-Microsoft service, follow that service’s account recovery process directly, as Microsoft cannot restore or manage their 2FA codes.

If unable to restore Authenticator credentials for any other reason and there is no backup, accounts must be added again manually. Learn how.
