I want to know whether it's possible to have a Microsoft 365 account set up with the master account as one email, but the billing account as a separate email.

Kind of a complicated setup where we have an email account that we use to handle billing for our family, but DON'T wnat that to be the actual login account for Microsoft 365 Family Plan.

Is that possible to do?

Yes. The Microsoft 365 (or Office) subscription is always owned and managed by a single Microsoft account, but that account can manage both the subscription and its billing details, including payment methods and billing information.

    From the available information:

    • The account used in Microsoft 365 or Office is the one that owns the license and is used to sign in to install, activate, and manage Microsoft 365 or Office.
    • That same account is also used to manage payment and billing information for the subscription.

The context does not describe a supported way to have one Microsoft account as the “master” (license owner / sign-in) and a completely different Microsoft account as the separate “billing account” for a home subscription. Instead, billing is tied to the account that owns the subscription.

A possible workaround (not a true separation of ownership) is to:

    • Keep the Microsoft account that owns the subscription as the login for Microsoft 365 Family.
    • Use that same account to manage billing, but configure its payment method (for example, a card or other payment instrument) that is associated with the family’s “billing” email or financial setup.

However, the subscription itself and its billing settings remain under the same Microsoft account identity.
