I have a Hotmail account. For the past month, the account has been bumped off the app on my phone, so I can't log in there. I'm also getting trouble logging in via my laptop most of the time I'm getting "something went wrong" messge. The only place I have constant access so far is on my iPad.

I have cleared the date and cache on my S22, reinstalled the app, and I am still getting 2603 error message there.

Follow these steps in order, focusing first on fixing sign-in for the Microsoft account itself, then the Outlook app on the phone:

    1. Verify the Hotmail/Microsoft account works in a browser
      • On the laptop, open a browser and go to Outlook.com via the standard sign-in page (for Hotmail, sign in at outlook.live.com as described in the Hotmail sign-in article).
      • If sign-in fails or shows errors, run the sign-in troubleshooter tool linked from the Hotmail article: Start troubleshooter under “Troubleshooting: Unable to Sign in to Hotmail or Outlook.com”. This checks for account issues and guides through recovery.
      • If the account is blocked due to unusual activity, follow the Unblock my Outlook.com account guidance from the Hotmail article.
    2. Use the Microsoft sign-in helper for the account
      • Go to the sign-in helper tool for Microsoft personal accounts (linked as Start in the “Can’t sign in to the Outlook mobile app” article).
      • Enter the Hotmail address and follow the prompts. If a problem is detected, follow the exact steps it provides (for example, password reset or security verification).
    3. If password or verification is part of the problem
      • If the helper suggests resetting the password, do it and complete the reset using the phone or another trusted device. A similar case was resolved simply by resetting the password on the phone and then signing in again.
      • If two-step verification or security methods are involved and sign-in is failing on the phone, add or confirm another sign-in method (such as Microsoft Authenticator) from a device where sign-in works, then use that method when adding the account on the phone.
    4. Fix Outlook for Android sign-in (2603 error) Once the account works reliably in a browser:
      • Ensure the latest Outlook app is installed (the mobile sign-in article notes that updated security standards can cause repeated prompts if the app is outdated; installing the latest version fixes this).
      • In Outlook for Android, remove the Hotmail account completely if it still appears.
      • Close the app, then reopen and add the Hotmail account again using the corrected password or updated sign-in method.
      • If sign-in still fails on the phone but works on other devices, use the sign-in helper tool again from the phone’s browser to confirm there is no device-specific block.
    5. If Outlook mobile still cannot sign in
      • Use the Troubleshoot Outlook mobile issues guidance: for Outlook.com accounts such as Hotmail, the article directs to contact Microsoft support if sign-in issues persist.
      • From a device where sign-in works, go to Microsoft support (as linked in the troubleshooting article) and open a support request under Outlook.com/Microsoft account so an agent can check for account or device blocks.

If at any point the account stops working even on the iPad or in the browser, return to the Hotmail sign-in article and run the sign-in troubleshooter immediately, as that indicates an account-level issue rather than just an app/device problem.
