The restriction shown in the screenshots is an MSN commenting/community restriction, not an Outlook.com mailbox or Microsoft account lock, which is why standard account support and the Outlook.com “no violations” page do not show any flags.

MSN article comments and community features are moderated and enforced by MSN’s own automated moderation and abuse‑detection systems. These systems can:

    • Temporarily or permanently block commenting on articles.
    • Show banners such as “Account restricted – You can’t comment for 72 hours,” even when the underlying Microsoft account appears healthy and has no policy violations in other services.

Back‑end details (exact rules, signals, or “algorithm” used to flag and time these restrictions) are not exposed to support or to the public, and Microsoft Q&A/community support cannot see or change MSN comment restrictions. Even if general Microsoft support confirms the Microsoft account is fine, the MSN commenting restriction can still remain in place because it is enforced separately by MSN’s moderation service.

For long‑term or seemingly stuck restrictions on MSN comments, the only available escalation path is:

    1. Open any MSN page that has article comments.
    2. Use the Feedback option at the bottom right of the MSN page.
    3. In the feedback form, explain that the MSN account shows an “Account restricted – you can’t comment for 72 hours” banner even though the account status page reports no violations, and that the restriction has not lifted after the stated period.
    4. Submit the feedback so the MSN team can review the moderation state on their side.

If the restriction is tied only to MSN’s moderation system, Outlook.com mail, OneDrive, and other Microsoft account services will continue to work normally; only MSN community features are affected. If at any point sign‑in, verification, or broader Microsoft account access becomes blocked, that must be handled through the standard Microsoft account lock/unlock and recovery flows documented in the references below.
