A fully managed end-to-end service for digitally signing code, documents, and applications. (formerly Trusted Signing)
In Artifact Signing, once individual ID verification shows Successful, the overall identity validation request can still be In Progress or Action required, and the portal view can be confusing. Use the following checks and steps:
- Open the identity validation list correctly
- In Azure portal, go to the Artifact Signing account.
- Confirm the correct role is assigned (must have Artifact Signing Identity Verifier to manage identity validations).
- From the Overview pane or Objects → Identity validations, open the list of identity validation requests.
- Look for the request whose status is In Progress, Action required, Completed, or Failed.
- Understand what “Successful” refers to
- The “Successful” message usually refers to the individual identity validation step, not the entire organization identity validation.
- After individual validation is successful, the main identity validation request returns to In Progress while Microsoft completes the remaining checks.
- If the request shows Action required
- Select that identity validation entry in Identity validations.
- When status is Action required, Microsoft has sent an email with instructions (for example, to upload more documents or fix email verification).
- Follow the instructions in the email and, if requested, upload documents in the Azure portal for that identity validation.
- If email verification failed or link expired
- If the email verification step failed or the link expired, the guidance is to start a new identity validation request. Failed email verification cannot be retried on the same request.
- Create a new identity validation under Identity validations → New identity, ensuring the primary email can receive external emails and links.
- If the identity validation ultimately fails
- If the status becomes Failed and it is not due to a missed email verification, it means Microsoft could not validate the information with the documentation provided.
- If all documentation attempts are exhausted, the onboarding cannot proceed for that request.
- When the portal never shows details or status doesn’t change
- If the portal never shows the identity validation entry or it remains stuck after “Successful” individual validation with no visible request details:
- Verify the correct Artifact Signing account and tenant are being used.
- Confirm the identity validation request was created under Identity validations (Organization) and not only the individual step.
- If the issue persists, open a support case via Azure Support or ask in Microsoft Q&A with the artifact-signing tag for assistance with that specific identity validation request.
- If the portal never shows the identity validation entry or it remains stuck after “Successful” individual validation with no visible request details:
- Time expectations
- Processing an identity validation request can take 1–20 business days, longer if additional documentation is required. During this time, the request may remain In Progress even though the individual ID step shows as successful.
