Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Follow these steps in Outlook.com / Outlook on the web to make sure nothing in the mailbox is blocking or redirecting Discord’s messages and to keep the account secure:
- Verify the account is not compromised anymore
- Run a full antivirus/malware scan on every device used to access the account (PC, phone, tablet) before making further changes.
- Change the Microsoft account password again to a strong, unique password after the scan completes.
- Add or verify secure sign-in options (for example, Microsoft Authenticator) so attackers cannot easily get back in.
- If the account was hacked, follow the guidance in How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account and complete all steps (scan, password change, and settings review).
- Check for filters that might block or hide Discord emails
In Outlook.com / Outlook on the web:
- Sign in to the Outlook.com mailbox.
- Go to Settings > Mail.
- Check:
- Rules: Remove any rule that moves, deletes, or forwards messages (especially ones that could affect Discord emails).
- Forwarding: Turn off forwarding or remove any unknown forwarding addresses.
- Junk email / Blocked senders: Under Blocked Senders or Block and allow, remove any blocked addresses or domains that could match Discord’s sending addresses or domains.
- Check the Junk Email, Deleted Items, and other folders to see if Discord messages are being misclassified.
- Confirm the mailbox is not blocked or full
- If the Outlook.com account was temporarily blocked due to unusual activity, use the Sign-in Helper from the Unblock my Outlook.com account article to unblock it.
- Make sure the Outlook.com mailbox and OneDrive storage are not full; if they are, delete or move items so new mail (including Discord’s) can arrive.
- Test receiving mail
- Send a test email from another account to the compromised Outlook.com address.
- Confirm it arrives in Inbox (or another folder if a rule moves it).
- If test mail arrives but Discord mail does not, provide Discord support with this information and confirm that no filters, rules, or forwarding are active on the Outlook side.
If, after these checks, Discord messages still do not arrive, continue working with Discord support, explaining that:
- The Outlook.com account has been secured (password changed, malware scan done).
- No rules, forwarding, or blocked senders are preventing delivery.
- Test messages from other senders arrive successfully.
