A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Workday access is protected by two-step verification, so signing in without the usual phone method requires using an alternate verification method and help from the organization’s IT help desk.
Use these steps:
- Try an alternate sign-in method
- Go to the Microsoft security info page: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and sign in with the work account if possible.
- If sign-in works, select Add sign-in method and add another method (for example, email, a different phone, or a security key) so Workday can use that instead of the lost/unavailable phone.
- If sign-in is blocked because of MFA
- Since the screen mentions sending a code to the IT help desk, that means the organization has an admin/help-desk flow to verify identity.
- Contact the organization’s IT help desk directly (phone, internal portal, or in-person) and tell them that Workday is offering to send a verification code to the help desk.
- The help desk can either:
- Use that code to confirm identity, or
- Clear/reset the multifactor authentication (MFA) settings on the account.
- After the IT help desk clears the MFA settings, the next sign-in will prompt to register two-step verification again, where a new phone or another method can be configured.
- Make sure multiple methods are configured after recovery
- Once access is restored, go back to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
- Add at least one additional sign-in method (for example, Microsoft Authenticator plus email or SMS). This prevents being locked out again if the phone is unavailable.
If the phone was lost or stolen, inform the organization’s help desk so they can update the account and clear old MFA registrations.
