Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
The account is both locked and likely compromised, and the sign-in system no longer recognizes the email as an active Microsoft account. Recovery must go through the official self-service and support flows; direct phone escalation is not available from the community.
Use these steps in order:
- Run the hacked/compromised account troubleshooter
- Go to How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account and select Start: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2196140
- Enter the affected email/phone and follow the guided steps. The tool will either:
- Offer self-help options, or
- Offer a way to talk to an agent, depending on what it detects.
- If sign-in says “We couldn't find an account with that username”
- From the Account help & learning page, use the Sign-in Helper specifically for hacked account issues: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2196140
- This is the supported path when the system claims the account does not exist but it is still associated with subscriptions or data.
- If the account is locked or suspended
- If the account was locked due to suspicious activity or violation of the Microsoft Services Agreement, use the on-screen aka.ms/ link on the lock/“no Next button” page to submit the reinstatement form. A Microsoft Online Safety agent will review and contact by email. Do not submit multiple forms, as that slows response.
- If the account is temporarily suspended for Terms of Use violations, review the guidance under Why is my Microsoft account temporarily suspended? and ensure no malware, phishing, or spam activity continues once access is restored.
- If verification codes or security info were changed by the hacker
- If the attacker replaced security info and codes now go to them, the only supported method is the hacked-account recovery flow above. If the recovery form ultimately fails and all security info has been replaced, there is no alternative method for Microsoft to restore access.
- Contact Microsoft Support using another account
- If access to the hacked account is blocked, sign in with any other personal Microsoft account (or create a new one) and then:
- Go to Contact - Microsoft Support.
- Describe the issue (e.g., “recover hacked account / account not found”).
- Under Products & Services, choose an appropriate product (for example, Microsoft 365/Other Products) and Manage account security.
- Use Chat with a support agent in your web browser when offered.
- Support agents cannot bypass the automated recovery checks, but they can guide through the correct forms and confirm status.
- If access to the hacked account is blocked, sign in with any other personal Microsoft account (or create a new one) and then:
- After (and if) access is restored
- Immediately review and remove any unknown aliases, forwarding rules, or security info.
- Add strong security methods (Microsoft Authenticator, updated phone/email) from Microsoft account security pages.
If the recovery web form and Sign-in Helper ultimately cannot verify ownership and the hacker has fully replaced security info, Microsoft Support cannot override this and the account (and associated OneNote/cloud data) cannot be recovered.
