Being billed for a subscription that's not in my name but my dad's.

I'm being billed monthly from Microsoft for something, and when I go looking the only thing I can find is a family subscription that my dad has and I benefit from due to being in the same family group as him. None of the other family members in that same group get billed from it, but there is literally nothing else that I can find that has Microsoft billing me for. I'm beyond annoyed and cannot actually find a singular way to put a stop to the billing either as I get sent on a wild goose chase around microsoft and keep being sent back to my subscriptions where - once again - *my father's family subscription *is listed. Never made an order with Microsoft, never did anything with Xbox or any other microsoft affiliates.

The most likely cause is a separate Microsoft subscription or recurring charge on the payment method that is not the same as the family subscription shown under the account.

To stop the billing and find the source of the charge, follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Microsoft account dashboard payment area and investigate the charge:
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account that is being billed.
      • Open the Manage your payments page and select Investigate for the unrecognized charge. This tool helps identify whether the charge is from:
        • A separate Microsoft subscription with recurring billing enabled.
        • A purchase made by someone else using the same card.
        • A previously declined charge that was later processed.
        • An in‑app or game purchase.
      • Details: Manage your payments, then choose Investigate. Learn more.
    2. Check for duplicate or hidden subscriptions and accounts:
      • Review the order history for the billed account to see if there are recurring subscription charges separate from the father’s family subscription.
      • If the bank statement shows multiple Microsoft charges but only one appears in order history, there may be another Microsoft account (for example, another family member) using the same card. Use Payment options → Investigate on the payment page to search for other accounts using that card.
    3. If a separate subscription in this account is found and is not wanted:
      • Go to the Services & subscriptions page for the billed account.
      • Turn off recurring billing or cancel the subscription, following the normal cancellation flow.
      • Note that cancellations must be more than 2 days before the billing date to avoid the next charge.
    4. If the charge truly does not match any subscription or purchase:
      • Use the Investigate flow on the Manage your payments page to classify it as unrecognized.
      • If it is determined to be fraudulent or unauthorized, follow the guidance in that flow and, if needed, contact support from there to dispute the charge.

If a subscription is cancelled and a refund is desired, eligibility depends on the subscription and timing. To check refund eligibility, the subscription must be cancelled first; not all cancellations result in a refund.
