Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To verify and use a new Microsoft 365 subscription with Office apps and Outlook, follow these steps:
- Confirm the subscription is active
- Go to the Services & subscriptions page at https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account used to buy Microsoft 365.
- Check that a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription is listed as active. (Microsoft 365 Basic does not include desktop Office apps.)
- Make sure the correct account is used in Office apps
- Open Word or Excel on the PC.
- Go to File > Account.
- Under User Information, verify the email address matches the Microsoft account that has the active subscription.
- If it does not match, sign out, then sign in with the correct Microsoft account.
- If there is a subscription warning, use Update license or similar option and sign in again with the correct account.
- Verify subscription in Outlook (desktop or new Outlook for Windows)
- In the new Outlook for Windows:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Your accounts.
- Select Add account or Add subscription.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has the Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro subscription.
- Outlook will detect the subscription tied to that account and enable the premium features.
- In the new Outlook for Windows:
- Verify subscription in Outlook for iOS
- Open the Outlook app on the iOS device.
- Tap Inbox at the top.
- Tap the Settings gear at the bottom.
- Tap Accounts > Add Account > Add Subscription and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
- If a “Couldn’t Verify Subscription” or similar notice appears in Office
- Ensure the device is connected to the Internet.
- In the Office app showing the yellow bar, choose Retry so Office can re-check the subscription status online.
- If using a subscription purchased from an app store (iOS)
- If Microsoft 365 Personal was purchased from the iOS app, manage it on the device under Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions.
- For subscriptions not bought in the app, manage them at https://account.microsoft.com/services.
If, after these steps, Office still reports no subscription or a canceled/expired subscription, verify again on the Services & subscriptions page that the plan is active and that it is a plan that includes desktop apps (Personal or Family). If the subscription is Basic, only web and mobile apps are included.
