I Lost access to Authenticator app

For a third-party account like Facebook, Microsoft Authenticator only provides the 6‑digit one-time password (OTP) codes. If access to the Authenticator app and its backup is lost, the OTP secret for that Facebook account cannot be recovered from Microsoft.

To regain access to Facebook, the only option is to go through Facebook’s own account recovery and 2FA reset process (for example, using trusted contacts, recovery codes previously saved, or Facebook’s identity verification). Microsoft and the Authenticator app cannot remove or bypass 2FA for a Facebook account.

For future use of Microsoft Authenticator:

1. Turn on cloud backup and recovery in Microsoft Authenticator on a personal device, so OTP accounts can be restored when changing phones.
2. Avoid relying on an app installed only on a company-managed device, especially if that device or its account can be revoked.
3. When restoring Authenticator on a new device, use Restore from backup or Begin recovery and sign in with the same personal Microsoft account used for backup so one-time password codes for third-party accounts can be restored, if a backup exists.

If a backup was previously configured and the same Microsoft account is still available:

1. Install Microsoft Authenticator on the new phone.
2. Open the app and select Restore from backup (or Begin recovery on Android) before signing in.
3. Sign in with the personal Microsoft account used for the original backup so third-party OTP entries (including Facebook) are restored.

If no backup exists and the old phone and company account are gone, only Facebook support/recovery can restore access to the Facebook account.
