Hello,

I cannot access Outlook & Authenticator applications on my Android phone.

I've tried reinstalling the apps and tried different networks but that didn't help.

Follow these steps on the Android phone to troubleshoot Outlook and Microsoft Authenticator together:

    1. Turn off power-saving / optimization for Microsoft apps
      • On some Android devices (especially Huawei and similar):
        • Open Phone Manager (or equivalent system manager app).
        • Go to Auto-launchSecondary launch management.
        • Enable auto-launch/secondary launch for Authenticator and Company Portal (if installed).
      • In Android SettingsBattery or Power saving, disable battery optimization for Microsoft Authenticator, Outlook, and Company Portal so they can run in the background.
    2. Ensure Authenticator can run before Outlook
      • Open Microsoft Authenticator (and Company Portal if used by work/school) and leave it running.
      • Then open Outlook and try to sign in again. Some devices block Outlook from triggering Authenticator unless Authenticator is already active.
    3. Check Google Play Services and push notifications (for Authenticator)
      • Make sure Google Play Services and Google Play Store are installed, enabled, and updated.
      • In Android SettingsAppsMicrosoft Authenticator:
        • Ensure Notifications are allowed.
      • If using a work profile (Android for Work), also ensure PIN/biometric is enabled for that profile and Authenticator.
    4. Verify device security requirements (for Authenticator)
      • Ensure the device requires a PIN, fingerprint, or face unlock to unlock the phone.
      • Restart the device, unlock it using PIN/biometric, then open Authenticator and try again.
      • Make sure hardware encryption is enabled on the device (see Encrypt your Android device if managed by Intune).
      • In AuthenticatorSettingsDevice Registration, confirm the work/school account is registered and joined to the organization, then retry enabling passwordless or MFA.
    5. If Outlook sign-in still fails
      • For a Microsoft personal account, use the online sign-in helper to diagnose account issues: Start.
      • For a work or school account, if password or MFA is the issue and self-service password reset is enabled, use: Reset password. If not, contact the organization’s IT admin.
    6. If nothing works
      • If this is a work/school device, contact the Microsoft 365 admin or technical support in the organization and share the exact error messages from Outlook and Authenticator.
      • For personal accounts, contact Microsoft support and specify that Outlook and Microsoft Authenticator both fail on the Android device even after reinstalling and trying different networks.
