App asking for a code to verify while covering the code

Uh how am i supposed to log in to my email when it asks to sign in. I go to sign in and it takes me to the authentication app. Then the app has me log in, and then asks for a code that the authentication app is showing, but it’s covering the code. Very frustrating, how am i supposed to fix this?

This happens when the sign-in/verification screen does not render correctly or is stuck in a loop, so the Authenticator app both asks for a code and visually covers the area where the code should appear.

To fix it, use these steps to break the loop and use an alternate verification path:

    1. Try another verification method
      • On the sign-in screen where the code is requested, choose Use a different verification option (for example, SMS text or alternate email) if it is offered.
      • Complete sign-in using that alternate method, then review and update your security info so there is at least one working backup method.
    2. Try another network or device
      • Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or try a different Wi‑Fi network.
      • If possible, repeat the sign-in from another device (PC browser instead of in-app, or vice versa). This can avoid the broken embedded sign-in window that is covering the code.
    3. Use a full browser instead of the in-app window
      • Open a browser in InPrivate/Incognito mode.
      • Go to the Microsoft account security page: account.microsoft.com/security.
      • Sign in there and complete verification using any method that works (email, SMS, or Authenticator prompt). Once signed in, go to Update info and confirm or add working methods.
    4. If blocked or repeatedly prompted
      • If repeated attempts trigger a block or a Try another verification method message, follow these steps:
        • Use another verification method connected to the account (alternate email instead of SMS, or vice versa).
        • Avoid many repeated attempts in a short time; wait at least 24 hours if a temporary block is applied, and up to a week if needed.

If none of the available methods work and there is no alternative sign-in option, contact Microsoft support and request escalation to the Data Protection team to reset the multi-factor authentication configuration, as described in the referenced Q&A posts.
