To open a warranty or service case for a Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock that is dead on first use, the standard path is to initiate a Surface accessories support request through Microsoft’s Surface support channels. The dock has a one‑year limited warranty, and support/warranty handling is centralized with Surface devices and accessories.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Make sure the issue is not power-related to the environment:
      • Connect the dock to a known‑good power outlet.
      • Confirm the power cable and PSU are firmly connected to the dock.
      • If the dock was previously working and suddenly stopped, try the basic reset pattern used for Surface docks: unplug the dock from power, unplug the PSU from the wall for at least 5 seconds, then reconnect PSU to wall and then to the dock.
      • If it still does not power on at all, proceed with a warranty request.
    2. Prepare information for support:
      • Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock serial number (on the device label/underside or packaging).
      • Proof of purchase date (invoice/receipt) to show it is within the one‑year warranty period.
      • Description of the issue: “Dead on first boot, never powered on; was stored unused and first connected on [date]. No LEDs, no power, no connected devices detected.”
    3. Open a support/warranty case:
      • Go to the Surface support portals referenced for centralized support and warranty service: Surface Management Portal or Surface Support Portal, depending on whether this is a business/managed device scenario.
      • Sign in with the account used for the organization’s Surface devices, register the dock if needed, and start a service request for a Surface accessory (Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock).
      • Upload proof of purchase and complete the online form to submit the claim.

If the dock is confirmed defective and within warranty, support can arrange repair or replacement according to the one‑year limited warranty terms.
