Fix Microsoft Accounts and old School associations sign on problems

I need the Microsoft Account & Billing Escalation Team.

My old Microsoft account was tied to ******@gvtc.com, which no longer exists because GVTC shut down email and the school district removed the work identity.

I now use ******@outlook.com as my permanent Microsoft account.

In the last week I was told to repurchase Microsoft 365 multiple times. I have purchased Microsoft 365 Family twice and Microsoft 365 Advanced once. I was also told refunds would be issued.

I need the escalation team to:

Attach Microsoft 365 Family to my account: ******@outlook.com

Remove any leftover work/school identity from my devices

Verify and process refunds for duplicate purchases

Confirm that my subscription is active and recognized on all devices

Please do not ask me to buy anything else or switch accounts again. This is an identity cleanup issue that requires escalation.

Thank you.

This scenario requires direct review of account, billing, and subscription data, which cannot be done from this forum. The Microsoft Account & Billing team must handle it.

Use these steps to escalate to Microsoft support so the billing and account specialists can:

    • Attach the active Microsoft 365 Family subscription to the correct personal account (the Outlook.com address).
    • Remove any remaining work/school account associations from the device.
    • Verify and process refunds for duplicate Microsoft 365 purchases (Family and Advanced).
    • Confirm that the subscription is active and recognized on all devices.
    1. Gather required information
    • The Outlook.com address used as the permanent Microsoft account.
    • Any old addresses (such as the GVTC and school/work addresses) that were previously used.
    • Order history and charges for Microsoft 365 Family and Microsoft 365 Advanced (dates, amounts, last 4 digits of card, or bank details).
    • Any refund confirmations or case numbers already provided.
    1. Contact Microsoft account and billing support Because this involves unrecognized/duplicate charges and subscription ownership, contact Microsoft directly:
    • Go to the Microsoft account help page: Get help with your Microsoft account
    • From there, use the links to:
      • Access the Microsoft account dashboard to confirm which subscriptions are attached to the Outlook.com account.
      • Use Payment and billing help for subscription, refund, and charge issues.
    • If self-service does not resolve it, use the “I need to talk to a customer support agent” option from the Microsoft account help pages so an agent can:
      • Check which subscriptions are tied to which accounts.
      • Move or reassign the subscription to the Outlook.com account where possible.
      • Validate and process refunds for duplicate or mistaken Microsoft 365 charges.

For unrecognized or duplicate charges specifically, Microsoft’s billing support can review eligibility and process refunds following the guidance in the billing/refund articles referenced in the context.

    1. Clean up old work/school associations on the device After support confirms which account should be used (the Outlook.com personal account), remove any leftover work/school identity from the device so sign-in prompts stop switching accounts:
    • Open Windows Settings → Accounts → Access work or school (briefcase icon).
    • If any old work/school account (such as the former school district identity) is listed, select it and choose Disconnect.
    • Open Control Panel → Credential Manager → Windows Credentials and remove any entries that reference the old work/school account.
    • Optionally clear cached identity tokens as in the similar scenario from the context (deleting contents of the Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin, OneAuth, TokenBroker, and IdentityCache folders), then restart the device.
    1. Confirm Microsoft 365 subscription status Once billing support has attached the subscription correctly:
    • Sign in at office.com using only the Outlook.com account.
    • Check Services & subscriptions from the Microsoft account dashboard to confirm that Microsoft 365 Family is active and associated with that account.
    • From there, use the Install option to reinstall Office apps if needed so they activate against the correct account.
    1. If sign-in issues persist If sign-in to the Outlook.com account fails or behaves unexpectedly, use the guided tools in the Microsoft account help article:

For cancellation of any unwanted, duplicate, or legacy subscriptions that cannot be reassigned, Microsoft billing support may also advise cancellation and, if needed, a dispute through the bank as a last resort, as described in similar billing scenarios in the context.
