Quotation Marks have dissapeared from Outlook

About a week ago Microsoft changed something yet again, and the option for quoting (" quotation marks") option has disappeared from the ribbon. I've changed the ribbon from simplified to Classic, but it is no where to be seen.

We use this option daily and it's so frustrating that it's gone. I've googled on how to restore it, but none of suggestions work.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks!

It's still there but they moved it under Styles.

In classic Outlook, many commands were moved off the default ribbon when the Simplified Ribbon and other UI changes were introduced. If the quotation/quote command is no longer visible, it is likely hidden rather than removed.

To restore or locate it in classic Outlook:

    1. Switch between Simplified and Classic Ribbon
      • Click the downward-pointing caret at the lower-right of the ribbon to toggle between Simplified and classic views. Some commands only show in one layout.
    2. Check overflow menus in Simplified Ribbon
      • In Simplified Ribbon, click the downward arrow next to related buttons (for example, around formatting or reply/forward options) and the three dots (…) at the far right to see additional commands that no longer fit on the main line.
    3. Customize the Ribbon to re-add the command
      • Use File → Options → Customize Ribbon.
      • Add a new group to the appropriate tab, then add the missing command into that group from the command list.
      • If the command exists but is not on the default tab, this will restore it.
    4. Use “Tell me what you want to do”
      • At the top of Outlook, type the name of the command (for example, “quote” or the exact label previously used) into the “Tell me what you want to do” box. If the command still exists, it will appear there and can be run directly or pinned.

If the command has been fully removed from the product in recent updates, it cannot be restored via ribbon customization and would require using alternative formatting (for example, manual quotation formatting) or providing feedback to Microsoft for feature restoration.

    Hello @Lasha,

Thank you for posting your valuable question on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

After reviewing your description, I tested the same behavior in my environment and can confirm that the Quotation / Quote command is no longer visible by default in Outlook following recent UI changes. I also checked my available resources and did not find any related Service Health advisory or incident report associated with this behavior.

At this time, there is no official announcement from Microsoft confirming whether this change is intended or the result of a bug. However, since the same behavior occurs across multiple environments, it appears to be related to recent Outlook UI or ribbon updates, rather than a local configuration issue.

To help ensure this does not continue to affect your daily workflow, I strongly recommend taking the following actions so the issue can be properly investigated by the appropriate Microsoft team:

    1. Contact Microsoft Support Team

Important note: If your Microsoft 365 subscription is managed by a federated partner or reseller, please contact the reseller’s support team first. They can help submit and coordinate the request with Microsoft on your behalf.

    2. Report the issue via Microsoft 365 Admin Center

    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
    • Go to Health > Service health
    • Under Reported issues, select Report an issue
    • Complete the form and submit the report

    3. Submit feedback via the Outlook / Teams app

    • Open your Outlook on the web
    • Navigate to Help > Feedback > Report a problem

    User's image

    • Provide details about the missing quotation marks/Quote command and submit

Your reports will help the Microsoft backend and product teams better understand the impact and prioritize investigation or design decisions. I truly appreciate your effort in helping bring visibility to this issue.

Please note that as a forum moderator, I have limited access to backend systems. Redirecting this to the appropriate support and development teams will ensure faster and more accurate assistance.

If you find a workaround or receive updates from Microsoft support, feel free to share them here so others can benefit as well. Should you need any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reply. I’m happy to help.

This is no longer available in classic outlook for now

You can do this over the browser, do not use the "" but the actual quote button from the ribbon and you should be fine. You can see how it was used in the arrow in this image

2026-06-09 - Classic Outlook - Quote Style has been changed

It would seem that the latest Outlook release has changed the default "Quote" style from a Block Quote to a Pull Quote. To get back something that looks like the old style Block Quote you can add a new style.

I'm not a Outlook/Word Style expert. This is only a rough guide to adding a new Outlook style that looks sort of like a Block Quote. Any suggestions to make this look more like a real HTML <blockquote> would be appreciated.

1 -- Open a new email, in the body of the email type XXXXX

    User's image

2 -- Switch to the Format Text menu tab. In the Paragraph group click the Borders drop down and choose Borders and Shading.

    User's image

3 -- Set the border Color, Width, apply as a left border, and [OK]

    User's image

4 -- Open the Paragraph Formatting dialog, set the Left Indent and [OK]

    User's image

5 -- The body text should now look like this:

    User's image

6 -- Right-click on the XXXXX, click the Styles drop down, and choose Create a Style.

    User's image

7 -- On the first "Create New Style from Formatting" dialog, give it a name, and [Modify]

    User's image

8 -- On the second "Create New Style from Formatting" dialog change the Style type to "Paragraph", set the "New documents based on this template" option, and [OK]

    User's image

9 -- Your Styles menu should now include your new style
