Recovery of hacked account

If a Microsoft account has been hacked and the security details (email, phone, verification methods) have been changed, the only supported way to try to recover it is through the official account recovery and hacked-account tools. If those fail, the account and its purchases cannot be recovered or transferred.

Action steps:

1. Use the hacked/compromised account troubleshooter
   • Go to the Sign-in Helper for hacked accounts: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2196140
   • Provide the affected email/phone and follow the guided steps. This may direct to the recovery form.

2. Complete the Microsoft Account Recovery form (ACSR)
   • Use the email address that was hacked and an alternate contact email.
   • Provide as much accurate information as possible (old passwords, billing details, usage info, etc.).
   • The process is automated; if the information does not meet the verification threshold, recovery is denied.
3. If recovery is repeatedly denied
   • Moderator guidance in similar cases states that if the security info has been replaced and the recovery form fails, there is no other working method to recover the Microsoft account, and Microsoft Support cannot override this.
   • In that situation, the account is effectively unrecoverable.
4. Purchases and transfers
   • The context indicates that when an account is unrecoverable, there is no supported way to transfer Microsoft account purchases (including Microsoft Store or Minecraft purchases) to another Microsoft account.
   • For Minecraft specifically, users are advised to contact Minecraft Support separately to see if any alternative options exist, but this is not guaranteed.
5. If unauthorized purchases were made
   • For accidental or unauthorized Microsoft Store purchases, see the refund process: Cancel an order or pre-order from Microsoft Store and follow the link to request a refund.
   • If someone else is using the account, also follow the hacked-account recovery steps above.

If the recovery form eventually succeeds, access to the original account (and its purchases) is restored. If it does not, the account and its purchases cannot be recovered or moved to another account.
