How to get my one time key codes back

One-time codes in Microsoft Authenticator cannot be recovered if the backup cannot be restored. The only supported options are:

1. Try restoring Authenticator backup (same device type only)
   • Backup and restore only work between the same device type (iOS→iOS or Android→Android). Accounts backed up on iOS cannot be restored on Android, and vice versa.
   • For iOS:
     1. Make sure iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychain, and iCloud Backup are enabled on the device. Learn how, Learn how, Learn how.
     2. Install Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store.
     3. Open Authenticator and sign in with the same personal Microsoft account that was used for backup.
     4. The app will restore the saved account credentials. For:
        • Microsoft personal accounts using only one-time password codes: the codes will be available once restored.
        • Work or school accounts: only the account names are restored; each must be signed in again.
        • Third-party accounts (Amazon, Facebook, Gmail, etc.): the one-time codes will be available once restored.
2. If restore does not work or no backup exists
   • For any account where the one-time codes do not come back, the accounts must be added again in Authenticator using each service’s recovery process.
   • For Microsoft work or school accounts, if locked out, contact the organization’s help desk or a global admin and ask them to reset or clear MFA so that new methods can be registered.
   • For Microsoft personal accounts, use the account’s recovery options (email, SMS, or account recovery form) and then reconfigure Authenticator.

If iCloud itself cannot be accessed, the Authenticator backup cannot be recovered and accounts must be re-added manually.
