Microsoft Key did not extend subscription

In attempting to renew/extend my Microsoft 365 Family subscription, I entered a Microsoft 25-character key code for a 1-year subscription in "redeem.microsoft.com" while logged into my personal Microsoft account on my phone. However, I was in a tab on the edge browser that is logged into my work Microsoft account which I think might have contributed to a glitch. I have gotten through to a page that shows my personal Microsoft account information and shows Microsoft 365 Family redeemed on March 25, 2026 with order number. The "Manage Subscription" section shows next charge March 27, 2027, confirming that the subscription has been renewed.

However, when I log into Microsoft anywhere outside of the edge browser on my phone that is logged into my work Microsoft account, it shows that my Microsoft subscription is expiring soon. It seems that only the ONE tab within the edge browser that the code was redeemed on is showing the key was added to my subscription and renewed.

Please help!

The behavior indicates that the renewal was applied to a different account context than the one being used to check the subscription on other devices/apps. The key is redeemed and valid, but Microsoft 365 is likely signed in with the wrong account in most places.

Use these steps to resolve it:

    1. Confirm which Microsoft account the key is attached to
      • Go to the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/.
      • Sign in with the personal Microsoft account that appears on the redemption confirmation page.
      • Verify that Microsoft 365 Family shows as active with the correct expiration/next charge date (for example, next charge March 27, 2027). This confirms the key is correctly redeemed on that account.
    2. Make sure all Office apps are using the same (correct) account
      • On each device where the message “subscription expiring soon” appears, open any Office app (Word, Excel, etc.).
      • Go to File → Account (or Account from the app menu).
      • Under User Information and Product Information, check which account is shown.
      • If it shows the work account (or any account other than the personal account used in step 1):
        • Select Sign out from Office in that app.
        • Close all Office apps.
        • Reopen an Office app and sign in with the personal Microsoft account that has the renewed Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
      • If available, use the Update license or Change license option on the Account page, then sign in with the correct personal account.
    3. If prompted for a product key again
      • Do not re-enter the product key. Once redeemed, the key is no longer needed and will show as “already used” if entered again.
      • Instead, always sign in with the personal Microsoft account that owns the subscription, as described in the “Microsoft 365 is prompting me for a product key” guidance.
    4. If the subscription still shows as expiring soon
      • Double-check that the same personal account is used everywhere (web, Office apps, and mobile apps).
      • If the Services & subscriptions page shows the correct extended date, but Office still reports “subscription expiring” after signing in with that same account, contact Microsoft Support and provide the order number and redemption date shown on the confirmation page so support can correct the account/license state.

These steps align with the guidance that Microsoft 365 should be installed and activated by signing in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription, and that product keys are only for initial redemption/renewal, not for ongoing activation.
