Forgotten pin for login to Microsoft.com

For a forgotten PIN used to sign in (including when using a passkey), the PIN must be reset. The exact steps depend on whether access to the device is available and whether a Microsoft account password is known.

1. If not signed in to Windows
   • At the Windows sign-in screen, under the PIN box, select I forgot my PIN.
   • Follow the prompts to verify the Microsoft account and create a new PIN.
   • If I forgot my PIN is not shown, select Sign-in options, choose Enter your password, sign in with the account password, then reset the PIN from Settings (see step 3).
2. If both PIN and password are forgotten
   • First reset the Microsoft account password:
     • At a sign-in page, select I forgot my password, or
     • Go to Reset password and follow the verification steps.
   • After the password is reset and sign-in works again, return to the Windows sign-in screen and use I forgot my PIN to set a new PIN.
3. If already signed in on a device with the same account
   • Open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options (or use the Sign-in options shortcut).
   • Select PIN (Windows Hello) > I forgot my PIN.
   • Complete account verification and set a new PIN.

If sign-in is blocked because no verification method works (no access to email/phone, or password reset fails), use the Microsoft account recovery options:

• Start from the Microsoft account sign-in page, choose Other ways to sign in, then follow the Forgot password? and Use a different verification option path.
• If prompted for an account recovery code, enter it if previously saved.

If none of the recovery methods succeed, complete the full account recovery form and, if needed, contact Microsoft Support using any other working account.
