Follow these steps to cancel the subscription and request a refund for a mistaken purchase:

    1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page for the Microsoft account used to buy the subscription: https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in.
    2. Find the subscription that matches the $72 charge and select Manage.
      • If instead of Manage it shows Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not renew; no further action is needed for auto-renewal.
    3. On the next page, select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel, depending on what is shown).
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete cancellation.

    Refund eligibility:

    • To check if a refund is possible, the subscription must be cancelled first. Not all cancellations result in a refund.
    • After cancellation, use the refund guidance in How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription to see if the subscription qualifies for a refund. For Microsoft 365, there is a self-help tool under Get help refunding your Microsoft 365 subscription that guides through the correct steps.
    • In some countries (for example Canada, Israel, Korea, Turkey, and certain longer-term subscriptions in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, and Portugal), prorated refunds may be available. See Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions from the same article for details.

If cancellation is not possible or the refund option does not appear:

    1. Confirm the subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft and not via a third party (Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon, Best Buy, etc.). If it was purchased through a third party, contact that retailer’s support or billing service to cancel and request a refund.
    2. Make sure the correct Microsoft account is used to sign in (the same one that purchased the subscription).
    3. If there is an overdue balance on the payment method, pay the outstanding amount first; subscriptions with money owing cannot be cancelled until the balance is cleared.
    4. If the steps above do not resolve the issue, use Microsoft’s guided support for subscriptions and billing or Contact Microsoft Support from the refund article to reach an agent who can review the order and advise on refund options.
