Can't log in to Child Account

I bought a new laptop for my daughter and had to create a Microsoft Account for her. I set it up as a Child Account and was able to log in to the laptop one time. Now that the computer fell asleep and we are trying to use it again, it pulled up the D365 login screen with her email address, a message that says " We'll send a code to (her email address) to sign you in" and one button- "SEND CODE". I press the button and no code is ever sent to her email address.

Problem 1- we are not receiving a code

Problem 2- why are we being asked to log in with a code being sent to email? I want to set up a pin or have no password for her.

Problem 3- I explored so many self- help articles and tried to Microsoft Sign In help thing with zero resolve. Also not seeing a way to chat with Microsoft to get live help... it keeps redirecting me to this questionnaire that tells me there is no problem with her account.

Problem 1 – No verification code arriving

    1. Check the email address shown on the screen very carefully (spelling and domain such as .com vs .co.uk). If it is not exactly your child’s address, you will never receive the code. In that case, use account recovery.
    2. If the address is correct but no code arrives, this is treated as a verification-code delivery issue. In this situation Microsoft recommends:
      • Try a different verification method on the sign-in screen if one is offered (alternate email, phone, Authenticator, etc.).
      • If no other method works and you still cannot receive codes, use the account recovery form for that Microsoft account: see “Help with the Microsoft account recovery form” in the references.
      • If the account is blocked or repeatedly failing, wait and avoid many repeated attempts, then try again or use the Sign-in helper tool to diagnose the sign-in problem.

If none of the above works, use the Sign-in helper tool to identify the issue and then contact Microsoft Support from another account (such as a parent account) using the “Contact Microsoft Support” flow described in the references.

Problem 2 – Why email codes and how to use PIN/no password

The account is being challenged with a verification code because Microsoft detected a sign-in that requires extra verification (for example, unusual activity, new device, or policy). This is expected behavior for Microsoft accounts, including child accounts.

Once access to the account is restored and the child can sign in to Windows again, a PIN or passwordless sign-in can be configured:

    1. Sign in to Windows with the child’s Microsoft account.
    2. Set up a PIN or passwordless method on that device (for example, Windows Hello PIN, fingerprint, or using Microsoft Authenticator) following the “Go passwordless” guidance. Passwordless sign-in replaces the need to enter the account password each time.

Problem 3 – Getting additional help / live support

If self-help and the Sign-in helper are not resolving the issue:

    1. Use the Sign-in helper tool for the child’s account issue: it can detect most sign-in problems and route to available support options.
    2. If still stuck, sign in with any working Microsoft account (for example, the parent’s account) and go to Contact Microsoft Support:
      • Enter a short description such as “Child account cannot receive verification code / cannot sign in”.
      • Select Get Help.
      • If automated suggestions do not solve it, choose Contact Support to see available options (such as chat with a support agent in the browser).

Support agents cannot send verification codes or directly change account security info, but they can guide through the correct recovery and troubleshooting steps.
