To use a new phone number as an authentication method, the security verification details for the account must be updated so verification prompts go to the new number.

Follow these steps:

1. Open a browser and go to the Additional security verification page: https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/proofup.aspx?proofup=1.
2. On the Security info page, locate the existing phone entry (old number).
3. Delete the old number:
   • Move to the phone entry and choose Delete phone.
   • Confirm by selecting Delete when prompted.
4. Add the new phone number:
   • Select Add sign-in method.
   • In Authentication method options, choose Phone.
   • Select Add, enter the new phone number, and confirm.
5. Complete any verification steps (such as SMS or call) to validate the new number.

After this, the new phone number will be used for MFA prompts and sign-in verification.
