Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
On Xbox, game sharing can let other profiles use shared games, but online multiplayer access depends on how the console and subscription are set up.
- How game sharing works
- On the Home Xbox, the account that bought the games or has the subscription shares its digital games and durable add-ons with everyone on that console. Those other profiles can launch and play the games without the owner being signed in.
- This matches the situation where all subscription games are visible and playable after switching the Home Xbox.
- How online multiplayer is granted
- The multiplayer and social benefits of an Xbox Live Gold–type subscription are also shared with any other profiles on the Home Xbox, and the subscriber does not need to stay signed in for those benefits to apply on that console.
- On any console that is not set as the subscriber’s Home Xbox, those multiplayer benefits are only available if the subscriber is signed in and connected to Xbox services on that console.
- What to verify in this scenario
Since games are available but online multiplayer is not, the most likely causes are:
- The subscription owner’s account is not actually set that console as its Home Xbox.
- On the console, sign in with the account that owns the subscription.
- Go to Settings → Personalization → My home Xbox and confirm that this console is set as that account’s Home Xbox.
- The console in use is no longer the Home Xbox for the subscription owner (for example, the owner recently switched Home Xbox to a different console).
- In that case, other profiles on this console will only get multiplayer if the subscription owner is signed in and online on this console while they play.
- If the Home Xbox was just changed, remember that only the current Home Xbox gets automatic sharing of multiplayer benefits. Any previous console will require the owner to be signed in for others to use multiplayer.
If the console is correctly set as the subscription owner’s Home Xbox and that account has an active subscription that includes multiplayer, other profiles on that console should be able to access online multiplayer; if not, the issue is typically that the wrong account is set as Home Xbox or the owner is playing on a non‑Home console without being signed in.
