Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Follow these steps to resolve the issue and get the subscription paid:
- Check for a past-due subscription
- Go to Services & subscriptions at https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the Microsoft account used for the subscription.
- Find the subscription marked as past due and select Pay now.
- This ensures the payment is applied to the correct subscription.
- Verify and update the existing payment method
- On the Pay now flow, check the card details: card number, expiration date, name, and billing address (including city, state, and ZIP/postcode) match exactly what the bank has on file.
- If the card expired or details changed, update them or choose Add a new payment method.
- Make sure there are sufficient funds on the card to cover the full subscription amount.
- If the current card still fails
- The bank may still be declining the transaction even if funds are available (for example, fraud checks or blocked online/recurring payments).
- Contact the bank or card issuer and ask them to:
- Confirm the card is active.
- Allow online and recurring payments to Microsoft.
- Confirm there is no block on international transactions (if applicable).
- After the bank confirms everything is fine, try Pay now again.
- Add a different card if needed
- If adding another card fails, check:
- The card is issued in the same country/region as the Microsoft account/tenant.
- The card is enabled for online purchases and has sufficient funds.
- If the bank confirms the card is fine but it still cannot be added, contact Microsoft support for account-level help.
- If adding another card fails, check:
- If you still cannot pay
- There may be an account or billing flag that only support can clear.
- Use Microsoft account/billing support to have the billing team review the payment failures and help process the past-due payment.
Note: Gift cards, subscription cards, or Microsoft account balance cannot be used to pay for a past-due subscription.
