    Dear Yvonne Ragg,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble getting into Outlook; I know how important it is to have your emails handy on your phone.

Here are a few basic troubleshooting steps that often clear up these login loops:

Step 1: Hard Reset the App Data

    • Go to your phone's Settings > Apps
    • Find and select Outlook
    • Tap on Storage > Clear Data
    • Open the Outlook app and try logging in again

Step 2: The Web Browser Trick

    • Open your phone's web browser (like Chrome or Safari)
    • Go to Outlook.com and log into your email on the website
    • Once successfully logged in, leave the browser open in the background
    • Open the Outlook App and try to log in there

To help me narrow this down if it still fails, could you please tell me: Are you trying to log into a personal email (like @hotmail or @outlook), or is this a Work/School email?

I hope this helps resolve the issue. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please let me know.

Follow these steps based on the type of account being added to Outlook on the phone:

    1. Check the account type
      • If it is an Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, or MSN address, it is a Microsoft personal account.
      • If it is a work or school address (usually from Microsoft 365), it is a work or school account.
      • If it is Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc., it is a non-Microsoft account.
    2. For a Microsoft personal account (Outlook.com / Hotmail / Live / MSN)
      • Use the sign-in helper to detect and fix most sign-in problems: Start.
      • If recurring password prompts or failures appear, install or update to the latest Outlook for Android app from the store: download the latest version.
    3. For a Microsoft 365 work or school account
      • If self-service password reset is allowed, reset the password here: Reset password.
      • If password reset is not allowed or sign-in still fails, contact the organization’s IT admin; only they can fix account or policy issues.
    4. For non-Microsoft accounts (Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud, etc.)
      • Outlook mobile cannot fix sign-in problems for these providers. Contact the email provider’s support (for example, Google or Yahoo) to verify the password, security settings, or app access.
      • After confirming the account works in the provider’s own webmail, try adding it again in Outlook.
    5. If Outlook mobile itself is the problem
      • Ensure the phone meets app requirements, has enough storage, and has a stable Wi‑Fi or data connection.
      • If the app crashes or behaves oddly when signing in, remove and reinstall the Outlook app.

If sign-in still fails after these steps, use the in-app support: open Outlook on the phone, go to Settings > Help & Feedback > Contact Support to reach support directly.
