Using Outlook for Android for personal email and calendar management
Use targeted Outlook for Android troubleshooting and Outlook mobile general steps:
- Clear Outlook for Android cache / locally reset the app
- Follow the steps in “How do I clear the cache or locally reset/refresh the client/app?” from the Outlook for Android Help page.
- A local reset forces Outlook to rebuild its local data without removing the account in the service, which often fixes lockups when composing or opening attachments.
- Check for known Outlook mobile issues and reinstall if needed
- From “Troubleshoot Outlook mobile issues”:
- Make sure the Samsung S25 Ultra meets the minimum requirements and has enough free storage.
- If the app is crashing or freezing when opening PDFs or replying:
- Clear the device/browser cache as described.
- Uninstall the Outlook app completely.
- Restart the phone.
- Reinstall Outlook for Android from the store and sign in again.
- From “Troubleshoot Outlook mobile issues”:
- Verify account health and sync
- If this is an Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 account and it previously synced correctly but now locks up:
- Check for Outlook.com service issues using the server status of Outlook.com link in the mobile troubleshooting article.
- If mail works fine on a PC or web but not on the phone, the problem is likely the Outlook app or device, not the account.
- If this is an Outlook.com or Microsoft 365 account and it previously synced correctly but now locks up:
- Remove and re-add the device partnership (if using Exchange / Microsoft 365)
- Use “Fix email sync issues or remove a device from your Outlook on the web mailbox” (linked from the mobile troubleshooting article) to remove the Samsung device from the mailbox.
- Then open Outlook for Android again and let it re-establish the sync partnership.
- Check how the account is configured
- If the account was added as IMAP/POP, calendar/contacts and some attachment behaviors can be unreliable.
- The mobile troubleshooting article recommends adding the account as Exchange ActiveSync or Microsoft 365 where possible, then testing replies and PDF viewing again.
- If the issue persists only with PDFs
- Confirm that other attachment types (Word, images) open correctly in Outlook for Android.
- If only PDFs cause lockups, test opening the same PDFs from Outlook on the web or desktop to rule out file corruption.
- If they open fine elsewhere, the problem is specific to Outlook for Android or the PDF handler on the phone; after completing the reset/reinstall steps above, contact Microsoft support from the mobile article if the behavior continues.
If after these steps the app still locks up on replies and PDFs while the same account works normally on other devices, contact Microsoft support as suggested in “Troubleshoot Outlook mobile issues” for further escalation.
