Try these checks and workarounds that match known Outlook contact issues.

    1. Confirm how the contact is being created
    • In Outlook desktop, go to the People view (People icon at bottom of navigation pane).
    • On the toolbar, select New contact.
    • Enter minimal details (for example, just a name and email) and select Create (classic Outlook) or Save (new Outlook).
    • If this fails, note any exact error message.
    1. Test in Outlook on the web This helps determine if the problem is only in the desktop client.
    2. Sign in to Outlook on the web.
    3. Select the People icon at the bottom of the navigation pane.
    4. Select New contact, enter a simple test contact, and select Create.
      • If this works in the browser but not in desktop Outlook, the issue is likely with the local Outlook profile or client state rather than the mailbox.
    5. Check for the known “no permission” error after GSuite migration If the error shown is similar to:

You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder. Right-click the folder, and then click Properties to check your permissions for the folder. See the folder owner or your administrator to change your permissions.

    Then:

    • This is a known issue that can occur after a GSuite → Microsoft 365 migration.
    • The service has been fixed in version v15.20.2132.000 and later, but existing “bad state” profiles may still be affected.
    • Workaround: follow the steps in the article linked from the error description: "You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder" error when you add contacts to a contacts folder. That article provides the specific remediation for affected contact folders.
    • Also verify the service version using the Outlook Connection Status dialog as described in Description of the Connection Status dialog in Outlook to ensure the fix is available in the service.
    1. Try creating the contact in a different folder
    • In Outlook (desktop or web), under Your contacts, select a different contacts folder (or create a new one) and then try New contact there.
    • If it works in a new folder but not the original one, the original folder may be in a corrupted or bad-permission state and can be avoided or replaced.

If the problem is specifically the GSuite migration error, applying the workaround from the referenced article or recreating the affected contact folder typically resolves the inability to save new contacts.
