Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To get a refund for duplicate Microsoft 365 subscription charges, follow these steps in order:
- Confirm the duplicate charges
- Sign in to your Microsoft account and review your order history: Review your order history.
- Check for two charges for the same subscription period and same product close together in date.
- If you see only one charge in your Microsoft order history but two on your bank statement, it may indicate another Microsoft account using the same card or a bank-side issue.
- Investigate unrecognized or duplicate charges
- Go to the Manage your payments page of your Microsoft account dashboard and select Investigate next to the payment method: Manage your payments.
- This tool helps identify if:
- A Microsoft subscription with recurring billing created multiple charges.
- Another account (for example, another user with your card) is using your payment method.
- A previously declined charge was reprocessed and appears close to the renewal.
- Check for multiple Microsoft accounts using your card
- In Payment options, select Investigate to search for other accounts using your card: Go to payment options.
- If another account is found using your card, you can address those charges and stop future ones.
- Request a refund for the duplicate subscription charge
- First, ensure the extra subscription (if there are two active) is cancelled so it does not renew again. For Microsoft 365 subscriptions, use the cancellation and refund flow described here: How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription.
- To check refund eligibility, the subscription must be cancelled; note that not all cancellations result in a refund.
- If the same order was charged twice
- If it is clearly the same order charged more than once (same order number), contact Microsoft Store Support directly with your Microsoft account and order number so they can correct the duplicate charge: help with Microsoft Store purchases.
- If self-service does not resolve it
- If the online tools (order history, Manage your payments, cancellation/refund flow) do not resolve the duplicate billing, contact Microsoft Billing Support so they can securely review and adjust charges on the account. Use the contact path described in the community guidance:
- Go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the subscription.
- Select Microsoft 365 (or the relevant product).
- Choose a billing-related topic (for example, Billing and Payment updates).
- Select Chat with a support agent in your web browser or a callback option.
- Provide dates, amounts, and screenshots of the duplicate charges from the bank statement and the matching entries (or lack of them) in the Microsoft order history.
- If the online tools (order history, Manage your payments, cancellation/refund flow) do not resolve the duplicate billing, contact Microsoft Billing Support so they can securely review and adjust charges on the account. Use the contact path described in the community guidance:
This process allows Microsoft to review and issue any eligible refund directly, without needing to go through the bank dispute process, as long as the charges are confirmed as duplicate or erroneous on the Microsoft side.
