Login.gov connect

Login.gov is a non-Microsoft service, but if it supports standard two-step verification with an authenticator app (TOTP and QR codes), it can be added to Microsoft Authenticator like any other non-Microsoft account.

General steps:

1. Sign in to the Login.gov account in a browser.
2. Go to its security or two-step verification settings.
3. Turn on two-step verification using an authenticator app (or similar option).
4. When Login.gov shows a QR code, leave it on the screen.
5. On the phone, open Microsoft Authenticator.
6. Tap the plus (+) icon → Add account.
7. Choose the option for a non-Microsoft/personal account (for example, “Other” or similar).
8. Use the phone’s camera to scan the QR code shown by Login.gov.
9. Enter the verification code from Microsoft Authenticator back into Login.gov if prompted, to complete setup.

If Login.gov instead shows a secret key instead of a QR code, use the “Enter code manually” option in Microsoft Authenticator and type that key.
