A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Follow these steps to sort out access/permissions issues for OneDrive uploads; then check the Canon printer side separately.
- Confirm the account used for OneDrive
- Open any Microsoft 365 app (for example, Word).
- Go to File > Account.
- Under User Information, check the email address.
- If this is not the work/school or personal account that should own the OneDrive storage, select Switch Account and sign in with the correct account.
- Using an account that does not have permission to upload to that OneDrive can cause “Upload blocked” or “Permissions needed” errors.
- Check OneDrive upload permissions
- If uploading to a shared OneDrive/SharePoint location (for example, a shared library or folder):
- The account might only have read permission.
- Ask the owner/admin of that library or folder to grant edit permission; upload requires edit rights.
- If uploading special file types (such as .aspx, .master, .xap, .swf, .jar, .asmx, .ascx, .xsf, .htc):
- These require Add and Customize permission, which is typically only granted to administrators.
- If uploading to a shared OneDrive/SharePoint location (for example, a shared library or folder):
- Fix “Upload blocked” / sign‑in conflicts
- “Upload blocked” can occur if Windows or a Microsoft 365 app is signed in with an account that does not have permission to upload to OneDrive.
- Recommended sequence:
- Add OneDrive as a service again following the steps in how to add OneDrive as a service.
- If that does not help, clear cached OneDrive credentials:
- Windows:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settingsand select OK. - Delete
PreSignInSettingsConfig.json.
- Mac:
- Open Keychain Access (via Spotlight or Utilities).
- Search for “OneDrive”.
- Delete OneDrive Cached Credential.
- Run OneDrive again and sign in.
- Windows:
- If still failing, uninstall and reinstall OneDrive. Files in the cloud are not deleted; they remain available via OneDrive.com.
- Fix “This file can’t be synced / OneDrive doesn’t have permission to access the file”
- In File Explorer, right‑click the file that will not upload/sync and select Properties.
- Go to the Security tab.
- Under Groups or user names, select the current Windows user.
- Ensure Read and Write are checked in the Allow column.
- If not, select Edit and grant Read and Write.
- If the file is stuck, try:
- Right‑click the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar and choose Close OneDrive.
- Move the problematic file out of the OneDrive folder (for example to
C:\). - Start OneDrive again.
- When OneDrive shows Up to date, move the file back into the OneDrive folder.
- Canon printer files
- If the Canon printer is scanning directly to a OneDrive‑synced folder, the same file system permissions apply:
- The Windows user account under which the Canon software runs must have Read and Write permissions on that folder (check via Properties > Security as above).
- If the Canon software is writing to a folder outside OneDrive, ensure the scanned files are in a folder that OneDrive is actually syncing.
- If the Canon printer is scanning directly to a OneDrive‑synced folder, the same file system permissions apply:
If, after these steps, uploads still fail, capture the exact OneDrive error message (for example, “Permissions needed”, “Upload blocked”, or “This file can’t be synced”) and check it against the documented error descriptions.
