A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
The notifications are likely from OneDrive Files On-Demand or from Office apps that cannot reach Microsoft’s online services.
For the OneDrive “files are not connected” type message (for example, “OneDrive cannot connect to Windows”):
- Make sure Windows is fully updated
- Open Windows Update and download and install all available updates.
- Restart the device if prompted.
- Update OneDrive
- Download and install the latest OneDrive client from Get OneDrive.
- After installation, restart the computer.
- Access files another way while it’s broken
- Until the connection issue is fixed, files are still safe and can be opened from the OneDrive website or the OneDrive mobile app.
For the Microsoft sign-in page that “just sits there” on a profile and says “try again”:
- This usually means the app (Office/OneDrive/Windows account) cannot reach Microsoft’s online services or is stuck in a bad sign-in state.
- First confirm the internet connection is working in a browser.
- If the network is fine but the sign-in page keeps failing, sign out of the affected app and sign in again after updating Windows and OneDrive as above.
- If the message appears inside an Office 2007/2010 application when trying to reach online templates or help, use offline content instead:
- Press F1 in the Office program to open Help.
- At the bottom-right of the Help window, open Connection Status and select Show content only from this computer.
If, after updating Windows and OneDrive and restarting, the sign-in page still loops on “try again,” contact Microsoft Support from another device or browser and provide the exact error text shown on the screen.
