Unable to Complete Azure Identity Verification Due to POP/SMTP Mailbox
I am trying to complete the Microsoft Azure Portal identity verification / Verified ID process. However, I am unable to do so because of the following constraints:
My Microsoft account uses Outlook 2021 configured as a POP/SMTP mailbox, so all emails are downloaded locally and are not accessible via the cloud.
The verification email I received contains a link to credentials.microsoft.com/verify
Opening this link on a device that does not have a cloud-accessible session for my Microsoft account results in errors:
If opened on my desktop: the page shows a QR code, but scanning it in Microsoft Authenticator produces the message:
“You'll have to add this Verified ID first and then try again.”
Forwarding the email to another account (e.g., Gmail) and opening the link on my phone results in:
“The client does not have access rights to the content.”
I cannot access the original email in a cloud session, and the Azure Portal provides no option to reissue or resend the verification link.
Microsoft Authenticator requires a Verified ID credential to be issued first, but the flow cannot be completed without a cloud-accessible mailbox or a new verification link.
I am completely unable to complete identity verification required to access Azure Portal features.
The current POP-only setup is incompatible with Microsoft’s Verified ID issuance flow.
