Artifact Signing Identity Validation seems stuck "In Progress" for 7 days after I submitted business formation document

It's now been 2 weeks since the initial submission of my Artifact Signing Identity Validation request, and 7 days since my last input where I uploaded my businesses formation document.

I've received a couple of emails and clicked the links to verify. Then they asked for my busniness verification document, which I submitted. How do I find out if this is stuck or is it just slow? I thought I read that it was supposed to take a week at the most.

I tried to find a way to contact support, but all i see is a sign up for $29/mo support plan. Do I really need to pay extra to MS to be able to contact support when a system isn't working that I'm already paying them for? Is there no other way to contact support?

For Artifact Signing, the documented processing time for an identity validation request is 1–7 business days, but it can take longer if additional documentation is required or if the validation team needs more review. The status remaining In Progress after you uploaded your business formation document does not by itself indicate that the request is stuck; it can remain In Progress while the additional review is happening.

    From the documented behavior:

    • After creation, the request shows In Progress.
    • If more documentation is needed, the status changes to Action Required and an email is sent.
    • When you upload documents, the status returns to In Progress while the team reviews them.
    • When the process finishes, the status becomes Completed or Failed, and an email is sent.
    • Processing normally takes 1–7 business days, but “possibly longer if we need to request more documentation.”

Given that more documentation was requested and provided, the longer-than-7‑day delay is consistent with the “possibly longer” case and does not necessarily mean the system is broken.

For assistance with identity validation specifically, the documented support paths are:

    • Use Azure Support from the Azure portal for the subscription where the Artifact Signing account exists.
    • Use Microsoft Q&A with the artifact-signing tag for product team/community help.

    The documentation explicitly states:

    • “For questions about identity validation in Artifact Signing, contact us via Azure Support or by using Microsoft Q&A (use the tag artifact-signing).”
    • Identity validation requests can’t be expedited, and creating additional identity validation requests for the same entity that is already in progress doesn’t help.

So, to move forward without creating duplicate requests:

    1. Confirm in the Azure portal that the identity validation status is still In Progress (and not Failed or Action Required).
    2. If it has been significantly longer than 7 business days since the last document upload and the status has not changed, open an Azure Support case from the portal for that subscription and reference the specific identity validation request.
    3. In parallel, you can post on Microsoft Q&A with the artifact-signing tag, including your request status and timeline, so the product team/community can advise.

The documentation does not describe any alternative private support channel beyond Azure Support and Microsoft Q&A, and it does not state that creating a separate paid support plan is required specifically for Artifact Signing identity validation issues.
