To cancel the Microsoft 365 Family annual subscription and request a refund, follow these steps depending on where the subscription was purchased.
- If the subscription was bought directly from Microsoft
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to buy Microsoft 365 Family.
- Find the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage.
- On the next page, select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel if that is what appears) and follow the on‑screen steps.
- If only Turn on recurring billing is shown, the subscription is already set to end on the date displayed and will not be charged again.
- After cancelling, refund eligibility is checked automatically:
- Not all cancellations result in a refund.
- In some countries (for example Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Turkey) a prorated refund may be available.
To see if a refund is possible for Microsoft 365, use the self‑help tool under Get help refunding your Microsoft 365 subscription: select Start and follow the guided steps.
- If the subscription was bought through Apple App Store or Google Play, or another retailer
If the Microsoft 365 subscription was purchased via:
- Apple App Store: request cancellation or refund through Apple support.
- Google Play Store: follow Google Play refund policies.
- Another retailer (for example Amazon, Best Buy, etc.): contact that retailer’s support to manage cancellation and any refund.
- If the Cancel button does not appear
If there is no option to cancel or turn off recurring billing:
- Confirm the correct Microsoft account is being used (the one that purchased the subscription).
- Check whether there is any overdue payment; if money is owed, it must be paid before cancellation is allowed.
- If still unable to cancel, use the guided support for “Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription” and follow the prompts to contact support.
- Important notes about storage and access after cancellation
If Microsoft 365 Family is cancelled:
- Storage for all people sharing the subscription will be reduced to the free allowance (5 GB OneDrive + Outlook.com attachment storage, and 15 GB Outlook.com mailbox storage).
- If anyone is over the free limit:
- New files cannot be uploaded, edited, or synced to OneDrive.
- Email cannot be sent or received in Outlook.com.
- After 12 months, OneDrive and its files may be deleted.
